What are some of your favourite children's books?
I want to write one and get it published, and I’m looking into what makes some of the most popular children’s books so appealing to everyone. So Y! please help me build that list!
Books like (from the preschool to the 3rd grade level):
Cat in the Hat
Where the Wild Things Are
The Giving Tree
Madeleine
The Rainbow Fish
Curious George
The Hungry Caterpillar
Henry and Mudge
The Little Prince
Ramona Quimby…etc
I used to love reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s poetry and "The Children’s Bible". I hated anything Dr. Seuss and "Winnie The Poo". I had "The Shirley Temple Story Book" which contained things like "Rapunzel", "The Little Lame Prince", "The Wild Swans", "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", "The Emperor’s New Clothes", and more. I let my sister have it when her children were small, now I have it back, read it again after many years and shared it with my grandchildren and now my great grandchildren.
I also had "The Lucky Puppy" and "The Cow In The Silo", "Peter Pan", "Snow White" and "Cinderella" which I also loved. For the youngest set look for the "Little Golden Books". They’re great.

I always liked Judy Blume. She writes about regular kids in situation all kids can relate to and find funny/meaningful.

Writing stories that kids can relate to is very important.
If you want to write something for beginning chapter book readers like Magic Tree House it is important for them to be fast paced and easy to read.

These are the ones I remember loving when I was young.
Milly Molly Mandy books by Joyce Lankester Brisley
Any books by Enid Blyton.
Mischief in Fez by Eleanor Hoffman. The illustrations in my copy were brilliant.
